The Louvre was built by Philippe Augusta near
the Paris city limits and the Seine river banks in 1204. It is a tremendous
compound of buildings that was constantly enlarged and decorated for more
then 400 years including renovations made by Pierre Lescot in 1546 and by
Louis XIII in 1610. Whilom being a palace of French Kings, the Louvre today
is a palace of Art holding one of the richest museums in the world. |
